Disclosures on authors

We try to keep a work's ideas apart from the person who wrote it. Some authors have said or done things in public that conflict with our values of inclusivity, respect, transparency and honesty. We don't want to play that down, and we don't want to lose ideas worth keeping either. So when a work earns its place here and its author has that kind of record, the page says so plainly, in a short note above the summary.

Only two things earn a note: a view the author stated publicly and verifiably, or a criminal conviction. Not rumour, and not reputation.
